Call Out from Spectra…

Due to a high level of interest, applications for our current shadowing programme have now closed. If you’d like to be kept in the loop about future opportunities and events, please send an email to hayley@wearespectra.co.uk and we’ll add you to our mailing list.

We are expanding our shadowing artist programme, and we would love to hear from Midlands based creatives who…

  • Are learning disabled and/or neurodivergent
  • Are interested in learning more about how they can use their creativity to work with a wide variety of people
  • Are looking to increase their experience in encouraging other people to share their creativity
  • Would like to meet others who are interested in similar work
  • Are interested in learning more about how Spectra make work for, and with, their local communities

This is a paid shadowing programme, with initial training in June/July 2024, a range of opportunities throughout the summer and autumn, and continued offers of professional development in 2025. Each shadowing artist programme will look slightly different, to meet the interests of the artist and their creative practice. There isn’t an end date to this programme, to allow artists to progress at their own pace.

What’s on offer?

  • Group training and professional development opportunities
  • Opportunities to shadow a wide range of artists delivering workshops and projects in the community
  • One to one support
  • Peer mentoring
  • Support with access and travel

Spectra is a neurodiverse company and we are dedicated to using our work to create a world that celebrates difference in all its wonderful forms. Our creative process and the work we make is enthusiastically inclusive.

We recognise that job applications and interviews are not accessible for everyone, and we don’t want this to be a barrier for people getting involved in our shadowing programme. We have created a few different ways that you can find out more about Spectra, the work we do, and what you might experience as a shadowing artist.

Firstly, head to our website to find out more about the work we do: https://wearespectra.co.uk/

Have a read of this blog post, written by Isaac, who is on our current shadowing artist programme: https://wearespectra.co.uk/2024/06/18/reflections/

Head to our instagram page to get a flavour of what we get up to day to day: https://www.instagram.com/spectraartscompany

You can also email hayley@wearespectra.co.uk to ask any questions.

If you are interested in being a part of our artist shadowing programme, we are holding an open workshop and informal interview session in Bearwood (near Birmingham) on Tuesday 16th July 2024, 2pm – 4:30pm. To register please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/Gdu9VnTW3P3Gnf6i6
