We are so happy to share that we have been awarded funding by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation! This money will fund our Geeking Out On Governance (GOOG) project as well as a new theatre production.
Governance. A big word for the processes and policies that are often long, inaccessible and don’t centre care. Over the past few years, we have been working on creating policies that are accessible and not full of jargon, for example, our safeguarding policy. We also worked on overhauling our employment contracts. GOOG is about deepening this work.
Geeking Out On Governance will see us unpick how policies and processes work, testing new creative ways out and sharing our learning with other arts organisations and the wider sector. Our Steering Group will be collaborating with artists and our staff team to create truly accessible policies for learning disabled and neurodivergent people. A new production will be a test bed for these new ways of working, providing immediate feedback. As we continue to lift the capacity of learning disabled people to influence change, we want to shift who gets to be a leader in the arts industry and in Spectra. We are working towards appointing a learning disabled Director by creating a leadership training programme, BOSS. which we will be sharing more about soon!
By creating new, playful and inclusive ways to approach governance, we challenge exclusionary structures and instead build ones rooted in care.
Thanks to Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, we have a number of job opportunities coming up over the next few months to work on this project – subscribe to our mailing list below to stay updated.
